The Puffin is not equipped with a digital audio output, which would be extra $. #-oįWIW I'm using a Parks Audio Puffin phono stage that outputs perfectly well for the external sound card and to my amp. If I use plug-in Apple earbuds for video calls, the sound works fine. If I have the plug attached to the headphone jack and I speak, the Macbook picks up my voice through its built-in microphone and that registers in Audacity. There is a Midi utility program, but it also doesn't register anything but the built-in microphone. When using the USB sound card, I'm able to adjust volume in preferences, and it works. No choice is given for an external microphone connected to the headphone jack. I've gone into System Preferences -> Sound and adjusted volume all the way up for the internal microphone. When I patch my RCA cables into a dongle that combines them for the headphone jack, Audacity doesn't register any volume. Unfortunately that sound card is monaural. I am able to get a recording working with an external sound card that connects to my Macbook via USB. I have a MacBook Air 2015 running macOS Catalina version 10.15.7 (19H2).
